Greatest Movie Comedies Ever!
Top 10 Comedies of All Time
- Happy Gilmore - Released in 1996 this movie stars Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, Carl Weathers and guest stars Lee Travino and Bob Barker. This movie is too funny to properly convey. During the whole movie there is only about 15 minutes that I didn't find hilarious. If you have never seen this movie you must!
- American Wedding - Released in 2003 the cast of American Pie are back starring Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Eugene Levy and January Jones. This movie is rude, obnoxious, and terribly funny. If you are in the least bit squeamish you might not like this movie. If you dislike foul language then this is definitely NOT the movie for you. But if you like college humor then this movie is unbelievably funny and is in my opinion better then the original American Pie. Definite must BUY!
- Major Payne - Released in 1995 this movie starred Damon Waynes, Karyn Parsons, Michael Ironside and a guest appearance by WWF wrestler Bam Bam Bigalow. It is funny to the point of silly. I found that I couldn't stop laughing throughout the entire show. If you like comedy then this is a must buy.
- National Lampoon's Van Wilder - Released in 2002 this movie stars Ryan Renolds, Kal Penn, Tara Reid, Tim Matheson and Paul Gleason. This movie has nudity, sex, sexually explicit situations, swearing and scenes that leave you squirming in your seat. This is another college humor type show that not only crosses the line but sprints past it. If you are faint of heart you should not rent this movie, if you like rude and vulgar humor then this is a must see movie. It has all the classic elements, beautiful girl who deserves better, overbearing jealous boyfriend, underdog hero type and of course sex.
- American Pie - Released in 1999 this movie starred a number of good young up and coming actors like Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Alyson Hannigan, Shannon Elizabeth, Tara Reid, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy, Natasha Lyonne, Mena Suvari. This movie revitalized the college humor genre films. Not since Porky's did a film capture the younger generation's attention. This movie went over the edge. The pie scene has to be one of the funniest ever recorded on camera. If you haven't seen this movie what are you waiting for? This movie has a lot of sexually suggestive content and foul language so stay away from this movie if you are easily offended.
- Airplane - Released in 1980 this movie starred Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Peter Graves, Lorna Patterson, Stephen Stucker, and guest starred Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. This movie is zany to say the least and has jokes pilled on jokes closely followed by more jokes. You have to pay close attention as there are jokes happening not only in immediate foreground but in the background as well. This film was a comedianic breakout for Leslie Nielsen who was more known for his serious roles up until this point. Airplane is a riot from beginning to end and is suitable for viewing by all ages. Check it out if you haven't already. It really is a blast!
- Me Myself and Irene - Released in 2000 and stars Jim Carrey, Renée Zellweger, Anthony Anderson, Mongo Brownlee, Kate Forster and Jerod Mixon. Can you say funny? This movie hits many highs and almost as many lows making fun of people who have split personalities and various other problems. This move is funny on so many different levels and is probably Jim Carey's funniest role. If you like whacky humor you are sure to like this film. If you like to have a good laugh take a chance on Me Myself and Irene as it is a fun ride.
- Blazing Saddles - Released in 1974 this movie stars Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Slim Pickens, David Huddleston, Mel Brooks and Madeline Kahn. If you want some G rated fun you must see this film.
- Spaceballs - Released in 1987 and stars Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and the late John Candy. Another classic film written by Mel Brooks Spaceballs and is one of the funniest movies ever. In the tradition of Airplane it spoofs nearly all modern SciFi including: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, Alien, Star Trek, and Planet Of The Apes. Mel Brooks fills this movie with gags, jokes, classic memorable lines and unexpected twist. Enjoy this film if you haven't already. Spaceballs is suitable for viewers of all ages and is on my must see list.
- The Three Musketeers - Released in 1993 starring Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O'Donnell, Oliver Platt, Tim Curry, Rebecca De Mornay, Gabrielle Anwar, Michael Wincott, Paul McGann and Julie Delpy. This movie featured an all star cast and wonderfully funny action-adventure comedy. This is one of the best movies Walt Disney pictures has ever released, its funny, witty, well acted, well written and super enjoyable. This movie is suitable for viewers of all ages and is a must see.
Making this list was certainly fun but was much harder then I thought it would be. There are several films not listed on my top 10 comedy films that I had a difficult time leaving out. I decided to make 1970 as the starting point for this top 10 list which meant great films like The Odd Couple were begrudgingly left off. I hope you enjoyed my top 10 list and I would certainly like to hear what you think are the best comedies ever. At some point I will make a new list based on your suggestions and compare it with my top 10 list.
