|
|
| I didn't know where to place this new topic, so I'll let Chris decide where and what he wants to do with it. The book I'm eating up right now page by page is "Mort: A Discworld Novel". Holy cow is this book ever funny and creative. I haven't enjoyed a good book in awhile. Mort is written by Terry Prachett, who has written twenty-six of the Discworld novels. Prachett is brilliant and witty. The Discworld series is a must read. Another fantastic book to read is Stephen King's The Stand. The Stand is by far the best story ever written. A definate classic and must read. If you have any favourites let me know. I'm open for new book suggestions. |

| I am a big time fantasy book reader. I have read most of the Dragon Lance and Forgotten Realms series of books. They are a light read but fun. |

| I'll have to check out those two series sometime. What about The Wheels Of Time series? I've only read two of the book series. The Wheels Of Time seem to be popular. The Chronicles Of Narnia were pretty good reads when I was kid. I don't know about now. I'm also a big Anne Rice fan. I've read every one of the Vampire series and The Witching Hour is also a damn great book to check out. I highly recommend them all. |

Wheel of Time is an excellent series. I am an avid reader so I could list of about 100 or so series that I read but I am sure people don't want to hear about them. I probably own about 400 books and 98% of them are fantasy... pretty sure you don't want my top 400 list |

| Maybe not the top 400 books, but top 25 would suffice. Tell me more about your favourites. |

Okay you asked for it......
1. Forgotten Realms R.A Salvadore. Love any books he writes on the dark Drow Drizzt Do'Urden. There are probably 20 books with this charactor in it. For mindless reading it is probably my most favorite to read.
2. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Wow is all I can say. Robert knows how to develop charactors, storylines and twists. I only wish he would finish the series... I want to see what happens
3. The Winter of the World series by Micheal Scott Rohan. I really enjoyed this series of books. The main charactor in these novels is named Elof. Elof is my normal screen name for games and so forth. I liked the charactor and enjoyed the books. Excellent read from cover to cover for the whole series.
4. Empire and Magician series by Raymond E. Feist. Great read. It is a series about a young boy who grows into the most powerful wizard ever.
5. Sword of Shannara series by Terry Brooks. All of the books have been good reads. What self respectig fantasy series would leave this set off... certainly not mine.
6. The Death Gate Cycle series by Margaret Weis and Tracey Hickman. Excellent books!
7. The Dark Border by Paul Edwin Zimmer. Strange dark happenings go on in this series of books. It is an excellent series.
8. Myth Inc. A series of Books by Robert Lyn Aspirin. These books are a light read but very funny. Well worth taking the time.
9. Coldfire trilogy by C.S. Friedman. Another good read.
10. The Videssos Cycle by Harry Turtledove. Rather good series of books. Harry Turtledove bases this series around the roman armies.
11. 12. 13. Incarnations of Immortality, Apprentice Adept and Xanth series by Piers Anthony. His writing style is simplistic but his books are easy to read and a whole lot of fun. All of the books he writes are zanny and interesting.
14. Chronicals of Thoman Covenant series one and two by Stephen R. Donaldson. These books are what got me into reading fantasy in the first place. This isn't the best series I have ever read but it is very well done and if you look for it, there is an underlying message of hope in the books.
15. Darkspell and Dagger Spell by Katherine Kerr Wonderful reads and well worth checking out.
Now I have to stop.. I could keep going... I only touched on a few... and I am certain I have missed some of my favorites... but I have to stop sometime. |

| Wow. Now I've got some serious reading ahead for me. Those books sound great. I haven't read too many fantasy novels. I'd like to read some for a change. right now I'm reading Frank Peretti's 'The Oath'. Holy crap this book is extremely intense. I'm going to vaguely describe the story 'An ancient sin. An ancient oath. A town with a deadly secret'. Sounds like something we've all heard before. Trust me it's not. The deeper you read along the more engrossed you become. The scarier it gets. Frank Peritti's other must reads are 'This Present Darkness', 'Prophet', and 'Piercing The Darkness'. If you liked The Prophecy movies with Chritopher Walken you'll like 'This Present Darkness' and 'Piercing The darkness'. |

| Terry Pratchett is hilarious! I've read nearly all his books, or in other words, every one I can find. These are must reads! Very very funny. |

Anything by Terry Brooks is good reading.
I don't think he's written a single book I haven't enjoyed.
Though I gotta say, the Sword of Shannara books were great, but the follow up series got kinda weird...since when can a machine convert magic into electricity?!?!?!

| Agreed. Terry Brooks is very good. I also really like the duo of Margaret Weis and Tracey Hickman. I can't think of a book they have been involved in that were not good reads. |

Anything by Clive Cussler is snapped up by me.
Also has anyone read the Bible Fraud by Tony Bushby? Mind boggling non fiction! |

Maureen,
I haven't actually read that but if I see it anywhere I will pick it up and give it a read.
For the most part I am a fantasy book lover but I will read all kinds of novels when time permits.
My only problem these days is that I work 8 hours a day in a city that is an hour car ride away. When I get home I usually have about 3 - 4 hours worth of web site work that I have to get done. So most days I get about 15 minutes of actual reading time in which is just not enough. |
