I just want to make my position clear.... Reality TV SUCKS! Thats right... all capital letters SUCKS!

I cannot see why it is so popular. Lets face it... there is no substance to the show.. there is no plot, very little story and certainly no entertainment. How can anybody be a mindless drone and watch a program about nothing? TV should inspire you to think a little bit... Shouldn't it?

Lets kill off reality TV shows all together!

I don't entirely agree. I got suckered in twice and dragged a few down with me to Reality T.V. town. First it was the trashy, backstabbing bull@#%* show called Paradise Hotel. Every Wednesday or Thursday the gang and I would tune in for an hour. Second it was The Contender. The reality show about twenty or so top boxers who would duke it out weekly to become the prize winner of one million dollars at Ceasars Palace in Vegas and recieve the champion title of The Contender. The Contender was hosted and produced by Sylvester Stallone, along with ex-champ Sugar Ray Leonard. The show focused on the boxers family life and everyday struggles to win and support their families the best way they could with one great oppurtunity. To win the title and big prize package. If there is a season two I will sit back and watch it.

I cannot understand how people get dragged into reality tv.... I mean really... Isn't your own life interesting enough? Reality TV is stupid, a waste of time, and holds no entertainment value at all... what do you learn from it? I know that movies are about entertainment too.. but at least, if the movie is good there is a plot, a story, and colorful charactors... with reality tv there is nothing!

My life is interesting and sometimes escapism can be found in books, movies, games, and reality trash T.V. I admitt it. I am a fan of reality T.V. For those who don't want to watch it don't. As I said, there were only two shows I've watched and got pulled into on a weekly ritualistic time slot. It may happen again. For now, since The Contender ended, so did reality T.V. for me. Would you watch a reality show about who's going to be the next female porn star?

Reality tv makes no sense at all... It is just something that manages to be so successful by feeding off peoples tv addiction. Heres a word to all you reality tv watchers. If you want to see some reality, turn off your %#$&ing TV! Do you know how much reality you can see downtown? Want to see some big fat losers?(The Biggest Loser) Go downtown. Want to see people struggling for their lives to see who can survive?(Survivor) Go downtown. Want to see some good fighting action?(The Contender) Go outside the nastiest pub in town on Welfare Wednesday! Want to see people do anything for money?(Fear Factor) Go look at the people doing the graveyard shift at the downtown 7-11. Want to see someone's personal endurance limit?(Amazing Race) Watch the crack hustlers get chased down by the Local police. On the rare occasion that I watch TV, I watch it to escape reality. People who like reality TV are sad people who's own reality must be so pathetically uneventful that they need to leech off other peoples. And that is unreal. Oh... thats right... I went there.

Ouch. That would hurt if I wasn't so desensitized by T.V. Ha Ha. Most people, like myself have good and interesting lives. Reality T.V. is like a car wreck you have to look and see for your own morbid curiousity. I am a movie, music, book, and T.V. junkie. I enjoy watching other pathetic lives fall to pieces on T.V. It amuses me. I also enjoy going out and doing lots with my family after work and on weekends. Never judge a book by it's cover Spoot. Reality T.V. is filler. It's something to watch and check out once in awhile. 95% of it is @#$%. A very small percent is ok to view when channel surfing or if you just don't give a @#$% what others think.

Reality TV is no book though Mr Film. A book has a plot, and quite often, some entertainment value. Also, quite often you will have learned something from a book, expanded your vocabulary, and your mind. Of this, I am sure you are aware. However, I can't see any of these things coming out of a reality television show. I know that we can agree to disagree, but I find it hard to believe that friends that I trust to be intelligent, rational people, don't have something a little more worthwhile to do then watch people eat cow intestines, getting recronstructive surgery, trading wives, belittleing of overweight women etc. etc.
What a positive message for a 12 year old slightly overweight and self-conscious girl/guy
Temptation Island! Yes, this is an essential building block in a healthy relationship!! What do you say we go out for dinner alone with each other's respective spouses/significant others and see what happens? Sounds like fun! Who cares if we are happy with our spouses? Let's stir the pot and see what comes to the surface!
A show about washed-up "stars" living together. Who cares? They are washed up!
I guess I just dont see the positive result of watching this stuff. Perhaps others can laugh at how stupid it is, and there is things that I laugh about for this reason. However, reality tv is just too stupid for me to laugh at, and with all the reality tv out there these days, its best to not show support to avoid seeing any more air.

I am willing to guess that most of you ?%&#ing whiners that are sitting bitchin about realty T.V. and how much it sucks are probably a bunch of computer geeks that do nothing in life but go to work, spend most of your time there on a computer, or talk about computers and then go home and spend your life playing mind f?&*% usless games on the computer, like Fianal Fantasy or World of War Craft.
So for those who get wrapped up in realty T.V. or you are into your pretend games trying to live an interesting life through a fictional character at least you are not on the street, in a bar wasting away or doing something stupid

Mr. E, though you have a valid complaint about computer usage, you seem to be getting away from the topic. The topic is Do you like Reality TV? If you wish to start a topic about Computer usage in the off topic discussion you are more then welcome to.

Now back to the topic at hand... reality tv sucks!

Remember Spoot what I said about reality T.V. I've only watched two. One, I prefered and enjoed, was The Contender. Paradise Hotel was more or less of an experiment. Everyone was talking, loving, and living Survivor and the other shows which followed. I wanted to watch a reality show to see for myself what the hype, hysteria was about. Paradise Hotel was it. Yes I got pulled into the live version of Melrose Place where everyone was out to get one another. Funny and sad it was, but I still watched the entire season missing only one episode. Since then, I've only checked out The Contender. Just to let you know on A&E there's a reality show called The First 48. I'm a fan of A&E programs such as American Justice, Biography, and Cold Case Files. The First 48 is about detectives in different city states who have to find crucial evidence in 48 hrs. that happens to be the most important to wrap up a case. If not the case can grow cold and unsolved . I love the show and watch it when I can. Even if your not a fan of Reality TV check it out. It's very interesting and eye opening to see what detectives have to do to solve a case and apprehend the criminals.

Well Mr. E.
I have tried out reality TV, and didnt enjoy it. I'd be willing to bet you havent tried out Final Fantasy or Warcraft. I'd also hazard a guess that you couldnt even figure out how to install it or how to even begin to play it. I guess such knowledge comes from being a computer geek. And, what is a computer geek? Is it someone who uses a computer at least 20 hours a week? Cause if this is the case, just about everyone I know is a computer geek. I think that you may be a little inept when it comes to computers, and anyone who knows more than you is a "computer geek." The fact is, we are looking towards the future which is becoming progressively more computer oriented, and people who hold this "computer geek" attitute will still have a place in society, so don't worry. Gas tanks are at all kinds of weird levels, so we'll still need someone to pump our gas. Rest easy my friend.

Well spoken Mr.Spoot!!! we will also need people like Mr.E to clean our septic tanks, collect our garbage etc........
See, while we computer geeks are bettering our position in life, the mindless television drones are losing IQ points steadily.....
it's hard to beleive that there are still people out there that are as
"porch monkey redneck" as Mr.E!!!

Very Happy eat, drink, and fornicate at will!!!

Reality TV shows are different from Documentaries. What I mean is, the classic mold for a Reality TV series is, put a bunch of people together with no plot and see what happens. A show about a crime scene investigation with a bunch of trained professionals, has a plot, and is more of a documentary then Reality TV show.

I think shows like Survivor, The Batchelor, Paradise Island and all shows of this ilk are not very entertaining because they do not have a plot. They are built entirely around mundane day to day activities that cannot be interesting unless your life is boring. The producers only introduce things (fights, nudity, and sex) to the program if the show becomes stale and viewers drop. The whole thing is a lark, and some TV producer somewhere is laughing his butt off at all of the people that follow shows about nothing.

Programs like American Chopper are more of a documentary, then reality tv, as they depict the process of building a motorcycle from start to finish. American Choppers doesn't put a bunch of bike builders in a room together for 3 months with no direction, put a camera on them 24/7 and then watch to see what happens.... you don't follow them to the bathroom, you don't see them sleeping, you don't watch them brush their teeth for the "pure" enjoyment and entertainment "value". If you watch a documentary, you are watching because you want to learn something and that is the difference. What life long skill do you learn from the bachelor? Do you think Survivor is actually a show about survival skills?
