The best car chase scenes ever made:

1. The Matrix Reloaded- the 20 minute highway scene was incredible and still remains untouchable.

2. Ronin- has a few good car chase sequences. Not bad For Robert De Niro and Sean Reno.

3. The French Connection- Gene Hackman as Popeye Doyle should say it all with a great car chase scene.

4. Mad Max- a tue original masterpiece with fantastic car chase extravaganza.

5.The Road Warrior- one of the best road bash and crash scenes ever caught on film.

6. Terminator 2:Judgment Day- James Camerons golden jewel of action fast paced car chases.

7. Terminator 3:Rise Of The Machines- The Crane scene can only be described as wow I want more please.

8. Vanishing Point- nonstop pedal to the metal fun.

9. The Fast And The Furious- what can I say it has some great burning rubber moments.

10. Bad Boys II- not the best movie, but it does have a fantastic car chase scene and it satisfies the action junkies thirst for a moment or two.

I will be adding more to this one soon. If you have any add them on or make your own best of list.

The Matrix Reloaded car chase scene was perhaps the best ever. It was extremely well done! That is a good choice for number 1!

Here are a couple more that are decent ones too.

The Bourne Identity -the old-school Mini. Fast paced race through the backstreets of Paris. Renault Police cars and Motorcyles try to reel in a Cooper Mini.

The Italian Job - Minis, Minis, and more Minis. Cameos are made by a Lamborghini Miura and a Jaguar XKE.

The Italian Job 2 - New Mini. Remake of the classic chase flick. The Mini's are back, along with the wild driving stunts and action

Bullit - Steve McQueen's Mustang. This is one of the most famous car chases ever filmed. A battle between two muscle cars down the hilly streets of San Francisco.

The Blues Brothers - John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd--as "legendary" Chicago blues brothers Jake and Elwood Blues. More police cars are destroyed in this film than any other. This film also introduced the legendary Bluesmobile.

Smokey and the bandit - Classic Burt Reynolds. Now if this scene or movie isn't in your top ten, you are straight trippin' (and you may not be the shapest knife in the drawer). The chase, the actor(s), the route, the jump across that old BEEP bridge is all perfect

Convoy - A trucker leads tons of 18 Wheelers to New Mexico, and Texas. But on the way, they have a sherrif on thier tail who will stop at nothing to catch them.

Canon Ball Run - The race involved everything from an Hot Rod Ambulance to Ferraris to Muscle Cars and thats a gas.

Cool how about the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie... it is sure to have a dodge charger by name of General Lee doing some impossible stuff.

my lord, you 2 watch too much tv Wink

The Italian Job mini's were very cool. When I've made my billions I may have to try that someday Smile

what about XXX at the end...any car that has a flame thrower (even if not used) is a candidate for a good ride Smile

Ahh Cannonball Run, what a great film. Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett^^, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., a very young Jackie Chan, what an all-star cast! Alot of cars going fast, but not alot of chases.

I'm going to have to go with Ronin over Matrix though with regards to chase quality. Although both were very good indeed, Ronin actually had me white knuckled, gripping my Futon, and hoping to God I was wearing my seatbelt. Honestly, the movie reminded me of a video game, and my goodness... do I like Video Games.

However, if its duration we seek, the original Gone In Sixty Seconds must take the cake. If a person didnt like watching car chases, they could fly to Antartica, complain about the cold, and be back before it was over. I was actually laughing at how many times I saw Elenor's front steering and suspension absolutely disinegrate upon landing multiple "Hazzard style" superjumps in an attempt to evade the 5-0. That's one tough car, I guess they don't make em like they used to....

Welcome aboard Dr. Spoot!

Great post by the way. Ronin's car chase was very good but I also really liked Bullit's muscle car chase scene. I don't know which movie along with the Matrix Reloaded that I would rank number 1. All three were great in their own way. Touch call.

Its not that I want you to feel like I must be really old, but lets not forget the awesome car chase scene in the "The French Connection". There were almost no special effects. It was all 1971 stunt drivers Filmed in only 2 shots. What movie can you say that about today.
Im not that I am saying it is the best by any means, but for the time and the work involved its certainly worth taking a look.

The French Connection is #3. I agree for it's time it was excellent. Now thanks to CGI we'll never get to experience classic films like The French Connection again.

Come on.. it was pretty good. CGI is good but isn't the end all.. I have watched movies that use almost all CGI and the effect is not the same. To make a great scene there has to be CGI mixed with the real thing to enhance the "Real" feel of the movie.
