Banks was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts where she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1992 and is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (1996). In 1998 Elizabeth completed schooling at the American Conservatory Theater. In 2003, Banks married Max Handelman, who had been her boyfriend since college. She converted to Judaism upon marrying him. She is known for her roles in Seabiscuit, Heights, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 (playing the part of Betty Brant), and quickly gaining widespread exposure through movies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Slither. She also plays Mark Wahlberg's love interest in the Disney movie, Invincible. In May of 2006, she appeared in the season five finale of the NBC sitcom Scrubs as Dr. Kim Briggs, Urologist, who is the love interest of J.D. (Zach Braff). Series creator Bill Lawrence has stated that Elizabeth will only be in the first few episodes of season 6. The winsome, beautiful Banks projects an exceptionally-charming screen presence that has drawn comparisons to Audrey Hepburn. Though her off-screen vocabulary is at times sprinkled with Valley-speak, her performances demonstrate solid acting skill and a keen intelligence.
