Her parants Caleb and Mary Jo Deschanel named her after the male character in J.D. Salinger's "Franny and Zooey". Zooey Went to high school with her Almost Famous (2000) co-star Kate Hudson and has a sister, actress Emily Deschanel. Zooey also attended Northwestern University. Zooey graduated from Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica and spent several summers at camp upstate New York at French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts. Zooey Deschanel was also featured in the video for The Offspring's song "She's Got Issues" and the accompanying MTV documentary "Making the Video." A fun fact is that Zooey plays the ukulele for the band If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies. Not only a talenty young actress but a skilled writer as well as she wrote a screenplay titled "Circus Girl" with friend Jackson Nash. Circus Girl involves a witch, evil flying red ballons, and a giant diamond. Zooey plans to star in the film as the nerdy main character. Zooey Deschanel also loves singing and actually sang her own songs in the Movie Elf in which she co starred with Wil Farrell.
